Karly Elaine Heath

I wasn't planning on blogging much anymore but wanted to put Karly's birth story out on "paper" so here I am again.

I was checked on Monday and was at 3cm and 75%effaced. My doctor told me how easy I was making it for him and so we moved my arrival time from 12am to 5am because it probably wouldn't take long to get me into active labor!

Wednesday night Ricky and I took the boys to his parents and then went to eat. We had a relaxing night watching tv and finally went to bed at midnight. We checked into the hospital around 445 and were super excited. Around 530am they started the pitocin. Our great nurse bumped up the amount every 15mins. My contractions started out pretty slow and were just more like cramps to begin with. When the doctor got there about 7am and checked me I was still just 3cm. To say I was disappointed was a understatement. But they kept bumping me up and the contractions got stronger.

Around 9am the anesthesiologist came in to introduce himself and ask me a question. He had a student that had been sent to him and they wanted to know if I would let the student do my epidural. Now, I understand that everyone will have to start out on someone but I just couldn't handle the thought of being a students "first" I just couldn't. I felt so bad saying no because I know they need to get experience but all I could think about was if something went wrong I would have three babies who needed me!

My nurse had a student with her and we quickly named the student nurse Slammy! The girl slammed the door EVERY time she came into and out of the room. We had a great time laughing about it.

By this time we had quite a few people there with us. My parents, Ricky's parents, Our Barbara, Mike, Ricky and Kollyn. Everyone took turns keeping Kollyn out of the room. Which I'm so thankful for. I know he wouldn't remember it but I didn't want to be in pain and he be there in the room. He gave everyone a run for their money in the lobby from what I hear.

During the day a few times my contractions would just fade away. I even thought a few times that something had happened to my IV because they would just go away. When they would bump my medicine up it would help but I never had contractions close together for more than 25-30 mins. They stayed about 4 mins apart.

I finally got the epidural about 130 or 200? I'm not sure about the time. I was told that I had held out longer than any other patient on the floor that day and he was impressed by that. I'm not sure how women can do it without medicine. I just can't imagine. I was tired of the nagging pain that the contractions were causing. When they checked me then I was only at 4cm and I lost it! I had been there all day and was only at a 4!! I of course cried and fussed but they bumped up the pitocin and we waited some more.

Around 415 my wonderful doctor came in and talked to me and decided to check to see how things were going. Again I was at a four and Karly had moved back up and wouldn't come down. I knew before what he was going to say but those words are hard to hear. Let's do a C-section and get this BIG girl out. She probably can't come down because she is so big. I said okay through tears and so things started rolling.

At 430 they wheeled me in and at 442 the most wonderful thing came into my world. My Karly.. The little girl I have waited for all my life.
