Miracle League Baseball

Yesterday was the last game of the season for Miracle League. Regan had so much fun playing on the Cubs team this year.  I know he is going to miss it the rest of the Summer and we will too! The couple of games we missed he asked us all day if it was tball day.

Regan is Ready to play

Kollyn was not happy that he couldn't go play

Throwing the ball back in

Heading to 1st

My child rocking out while running the bases!

Regan's team
I just can't say enough about how wonderful it was playing somewhere that Regan was just like everyone else. He wasn't seen as anything other than just a kid playing ball.  Thanks to Mrs. Mary, Mr. Curtis and of course Preston for making this a great year for all of us!

Regan

This week at Kelly's Korner her SUYL is for children with special needs so I had to link up for this one!! I love meeting other families of children with Down syndrome and hope to meet some great families through this link up!!

This is Regan! He will proudly tell you he is six. We had no idea while we were pregnant that he had DS. A few hours after he was born we were given the news.  These last six years have had their challenges but they have also been amazing.

Regan loves playing all types of sports. He is a HUGE Alabama fan and has been known to ROLLLL TIDE at odd times. He plays t-ball for the Miracle League and loves it. Every day he asks if it's T-ball day. When we actually get to the game he catches one or two balls and then he goes to the dugout to wait on his time to bat! He is a mess!

I'm excited to meet some new families and hope you will leave me a comment so that I can come meet your family too!!

June 1st

Today is a mix of emotions day for me. Today, June 1st, was the baby that I miscarried due date.

To say that you get over something like losing a baby is completely wrong. Do you move on from it yes but you never get over it.  I still think about that sweet baby that we tried so long for. I was so excited to find out that I was pregnant. It had been a LONG three years of trying.

Happy two years my sweet ladybug. You were only with me for 11 weeks but I'll love you forever!

It's a time of the year that I always dread. It's a time of sweat, tears and lots of training. It's not for any kind of sporting event but the dreaded IEP meeting! For me it starts about March, when we are first notified that we will be notified of a time and date for the meeting. I start feeling that panic as soon as I see the worksheet where we are to list what we think are our child's strengths and weakness are, what we would like to see accomplished next year and any other concerns we have. I start sweating writing it all out this one page report turns into a term paper for me~ note cards, key points, references, rough draft, index and all just to fill out 5 or 6 questions.  I'm a mess! Then as we get closer I have to give Ricky a run down of what we (I) want to accomplish with this meeting. I give him quizzes! I'm up at night looking for ideas and programs that might help me feel more prepared. I feel all this pressure to make sure that I do all I can to to ensure that he has an appropriate IEP with good goals that will help him push to learn more but that he can still be successful with.

We are here in the last week now. Regan's meeting is Thursday and I already want to throw up just thinking about it. I never walk out feeling like I did the best I could for him and I'm pretty sure I will have the same feeling this year. But I can say that Regan has made tremendous progress this year. So what if he didn't meet all of his goals he did things that we never imagined he would do and that is what counts.

Good luck with all your IEP's!!

Life...

I thought I'd take a moment to talk about what was new with each of the kids. I want to keep a better record of what is going on with them than I have been. Sometimes life can be too busy to remember to write it all down.

Regan is doing pretty good in school. He can tell us 17 different letters knows the numbers 0-10 on paper, knows all the shapes and colors. He can read us very simple sentences. His speech is still improving but it still very delayed. He loves PE and will come home and demonstrate jumping jacks and arm circles. He is very interested in basketball so we are guessing that he plays alot at school. My one concern is that he wants to stand under the goal and watch the ball come through the hoop! His teacher and aide tell us about how sweet he is, I would like to see more of that at home! He can be too aggressive with Kollyn and wants to be the boss of him. He loves his Karly and she is the first thing he says in the mornings. Potty training is still a work in progress. He does really well for a few weeks and then we go right back. He is going to play ball again this year. We hope that it is better than last year. My one concern is him getting sick out in the weather. Last year with it still being cold and wet he got sick and it turned into pneumonia. We hope that he "gets" it a little more this year since we have been working with him but who knows what will happen. Regan usually does exactly what Regan wants even if we don't agree with him!!

Kollyn, oh sweet goodness! This boy is a mess!! He finally has five teeth and weighs about 24pounds. His favorite things to do right now are push his sisters baby doll stroller around and cause a mess. I tell everyone that he is my tornado and it fits him so well. He loves cows and dogs! He eats EVERYTHING and that is a wonderful thing!! He is just a joy to watch and play with. He is interested in cooking and taking his sisters paci! He can count to three and knows stars and hearts. He knows the letter K and G. He uses 30 words and some two and three word phrases. He amazes us every day with new words and tricks. He loves his blankie and wants to hold it when he goes to bed. He is a homebody and loves his bed!! He calls Karly "get up" and sometimes Karkey!

My Karly! She is 4months old now!! Can you believe it!! She weighs right at 13 lbs! She is such a girly girl already! She doesn't want to be played with too rough and is quick to let us know when she doesn't like something. She rolls both ways and is working on sitting up. She sleeps all night and has for about 2 months. She drools a lot. She likes snuggling and being swaddled at nap and bed times. She is great in the car unless we are in the car rider line waiting on Regan and then she is MAD! She is her mommy's dream come true!!
